TTM success... 2/3 of the Triple Crown Line

Awhile back, I wrote a post called 1/3 of the Triple Crown Line. You can find it here. LINK. In it, I featured autographs from LA Kings all star left winger, Charlie Simmer.
Today, we fill in the other side of the ice, Kings all star right winger, Dave Taylor.
Dave played 17 seasons in the NHL. 1100 games, 1100 points. 4 all star games. In a rarity, all 17 years with Los Angeles.
I wish I could've found a colour picture of him worth using, but this black and white one is still nice. I like how Dave used black sharpie for this one, but for the Triple Crown All Star photo, he used blue sharpie like Charlie Simmer did. Nice little extra effort there.
Dave also signed three cards for me. His rookie, in purple and gold gloriousness...
 2nd year...
and one from later in his career, after the Kings had changed to these horrid colour blind uni's.
I want to thank Dave for responding so quickly.
Now I have to track down Marcel Dionne. You'd think it would be easy... he owns a sports collectible shop in Ontario. But three emails and one phone call remain unanswered. I don't want to just blindly send this photo out without knowing IF he'll sign it. I've heard he charges for his auto now, and I'm fine with that. I just want to know it'll be him and not whomever is working in the store at the time.

Trade night scan post.... lotsa pictures!

time to show off the loot from last week's trade night. I'm too busy watching football sans turkey, so we'll go minimal chit chat, maximum scan.

First up, the free stuff. One of the best things about trade night is when people pull a card that they know you need, and they come find you to give it to you. Along with giving away a few cards, I received some. Here's my freebies....
2012 Parkhurst Champions Black and White Renditions Guy Lafleur
Colour Renditions Mario Lemieux.... great shot on this one...
2012 Upper Deck Canvas Carey Price. the scans don't show it.... but these cards are really cool and textured. A neat idea for an insert set. Paying attention panini??????
I pulled this next card out of my first pack of 2011-12 upper Deck Series 1. A Young Gun rookie of Montreal defenceman Rafael Diaz.
Rafael Diaz was born and raised in.......? Can anyone guess? Yes. That's right. Switzerland.

I also pulled a Canvas card of Shark Joe Pavelski. I gave it to a guy who was 7 cards short of the Canvas set. Later on he gave me one of his dupes.... Henrik Zetterberg.
I was lucky enough to get a couple more freebies. First, a Young Gun rookie of Alexei Yemelin, or Alexei Emelin, depending on who you ask.
and a Young Gun rookie of Aaron Palushaj...
I now only need Brendon Nash Young Gun for my Montreal team set.

These next six cards are from the 2011-12 Parkhurst set I'm chasing. I obtained these six cards in exchange for an Upper Deck Marty Turco jersey card from one or two years ago.
Eric Lindros Colour Rendition
Dale Hawerchuk from the original Jets
 Gordie Howe, no introduction needed
 Wayne Gretzky, ditto
a Black and White Renditions of Bobby Hull.... with teeth! Well, most of 'em...
and a wire photo of Ted Lindsay and friends.
These next six cards are for you "mini" buffs. I bought these from the card shop. I paid waaaaay more than I wanted to, but, what are you going to do? $8 got me these next six cards.

a mini version of Big Bird.
 a mini goon...
a mini sniper. 60 goals in one season!
 mini Royalty...
no, Eddie wasn't just released on a day pass... that's an old hockey helmet.
and a wire photo of the destroyer of franchises....
If you've been followiing along since October when I posted my Parkhurst box break... you'll remember me pulling this auto...
I ended up trading him for the following three cards.
A Big M, Frank Mahovlich on card auto....
a multi jersey rivalries thingie from ITG Decades.
and a Brian Skrudland auto, thrown in, just for fun.
thanks for staying with me this long, enjoy the rest of the football. and Go Cowboys!

the hobby at it's finest...

Normally I like to inundate my readers with lots of pictures to cover up the fact that I can't really write that well. But today's post has only one picture.
During the monthly trade night at the card shop, cards change hands fairly rapidly. Everyone excited to swap the latest and newest. With some people though, just like in blogland, it's more of a giveaway. Friendships develop, and whenever you pull something you know someone would like, you place it in their pile, until you see them again or have the opportunity to mail it away.
These friendships are special, and are why I still type away at my keyboard.

At the last trade night, bamlinden, otherwise known to his mom as Brett, handed me this card.
Never has an uglier card been more beautiful.

And like quite a few of our 'trades'.... it was one sided. With nothing expected in return. He saw it, knew I would love it, and picked it up just to give to me.

Awesome.

So in your honour sir, I post this.

You didn't expect the Flying "V" did you?

Joy of a Completed Set, thanks to a card show

at the old card show a couple of Saturdays ago, I found some goodies that I thought I'd share. This is the same show that I found all of those Parkhurst Campions inserts you may have read about a couple of posts ago.
It was a really good show. All of the sellers were in really good moods for a change. Everyone was in the mood to sell, so prices were fair. All in all it was a good time.
But enough chit chat. You want to see the goods. Unfortunately, for this find, I can't scan all of the cards. Blogger would implode.
So you get a single page.

From In the Game, 2009's 1972 The Year In Hockey.
I bought a box of these when it first came out. I got around 120 of the 200 card set in my box. And have been trying to complete it ever since. Through trades and stuff I was down to around 60 cards needed for completion.
Then the card show happened.
A seller had a brick of these for sale for $5. My cat like reflexes reached out and grabbed it up off of the table. Upon examination, I see a post it note stuck to the side of the brick. "Needs #7, 47, 77, 144, 184"
The seller tells me, those are the cards it needs to be a full set. 195/200 for only a fiver.

There are times at card shows when you need to walk away, to mull things over, maybe coming back to the table later on to haggle.... and there are times to put a death grip on something with one hand while feverishly searching your pockets for cash with the other. This time it was the latter.
Sold!
Now my set is complete and my binder is happy. Binders are like stomachs. They're happier when full.

All I need to do now is finish that second set, or maybe decide to use them as ttm autographers....

2011-12 Upper Deck Series One Odds - Signatures and Game Jersey

posted here more for my benefit than anything.... It'll be easier for me to find it here than on Upper Deck's website. Although their website is still 47 bajillion times better than Topps.
Look for your favourite player and start ripping!

Joy of a completed page - Wire Photo edition

A couple of people emailed and asked to see the Wire Photos as I finished them. So here is page 1 of 3. Or rather 2 of 3. I need one more to finish page one and four more on the other. Two regulars and three SP's.

Say what you want about Upper Deck.... they still make the best sets out there. Whomever came up with this idea needs a raise and a promotion.

Joy of a completed page, card show edition

A little while ago I posted a box break of the new 2011/12 Parkhurst Champions set. I said I wanted to complete the whole set, SP's included, and I am attempting to do so. While my trip to the card shop provided no help, I did manage to acquire a whole bunch of cards fairly cheaply at the last card show over the weekend.
I managed to grab 18 mini's, including 5 SP's and four green backs......
20 Wire Photos, including 5 SP's and 8 colour Renditions and 2 Black and White Renditions.
I also picked up the last 23 base cards for the base set.
All 71 cards set me back $32.50

This set is do-able for sure. If any of you can help me with the last few mini's and Wire Photos, please check my wantlist page. The link is on the right hand side.

I'll post the other finished pages as they come.
